Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has survived impeachment after 18 members of the County Assembly shot down the motion.
16 members voted in support of the motion failing to meet the required threshold of at least two-thirds for the impeachment to proceed.
The motion was tabled by Esise Ward MCA Josiah Mangera and backed by several other members.
Mangera accused the Governor of abusing his office and engaging in corruption including misuse of public funds and failure to install functioning street lights.
Among other issues raised by the MCA was flagging off empty containers disguised as medical drugs and favoritism in his appointments.
Governor Nyaribo succeeded the late John Nyagarama after serving as his deputy and later clinching the seat in the 2022 general elections against Walter Nyambati of UDA.
Nyamira Governor is a member of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) with the majority of members in the Nyamira County Assembly.
The Assembly has 20 elected MCAs and 15 nominated with the majority(UPA) having six members, followed by ODM with four members, Jubilee with two members, and Ford Kenya with two members.
Earlier before the assembly commenced with voting, Bogichora ward MCA George Abuga made a request for the members to vote through secret ballot.
''We as MCAs, pass budgets with proposals, but the Governor decides which ward receives development,'' said Township Ward MCA Duke Masira.
Speaking to kenyans.co.ke Nyamira County Assembly Deputy Speaker and Ekerenyo Ward MCA who backed the impeachment acknowledged efforts by MCAs who voted for and against the impeachment motion.
''Congratulations to the winning team but that should serve as a call and warning to Governor Nyaribo to improve on his delivery of services to the people of Nyamira County,'' the MCA said.
