Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have recovered counterfeit alcoholic drinks and stamps at Kahawa Sukari in Kiambu and Kamulu in Nairobi Counties.
About 1078 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic drinks, a roll of counterfeit KRA stamps, 630 litres of ethanol, 10,300 empty bottles and four sacks of assorted bottle caps were recovered in the raid.
According to the DCI, the nabbed counterfeit alcoholic drinks were valued at Ksh 500,000, while the fake stamps were worth Ksh 4 million.
“A seizure notice was issued and the goods impounded as detectives investigate the source of the ethanol and the fake KRA stamps,” the DCI statement read in part.
However, detectives did not reveal details of those arrested with the counterfeit drinks and stamps.
Three weeks earlier, detectives launched a manhunt for a suspect who managed to escape during a police raid at his business premise in Murang’a County, where illicit alcohol was recovered.
The recoveries in Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location, were conducted by officers from the National Police Service and National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) on September 22.
About 320 litres of ethanol, distilling drums, cartons, and bottle caps, among other items, were recovered during the operation.
“NPS and NGAO Officers nabbed several assorted suspected second generation alcoholic drinks following a raid conducted within Gituamba Village, Ngatho Location,” read the police statement.
The latest recoveries by detectives come as the government continues to intensify the fight against illicit brews and drugs and substance abuse among the youth in the country.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has constantly asked chiefs nationwide to curb the abuse of drugs among the youth or lose their jobs.
He emphasised that he would not relent in his pursuit to restore law and order.
