A Nairobi-bound flight from France was diverted two hours after takeoff from the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Reports from aviation news sources indicate that the flight developed mechanical issues with its icing system on Monday while en route to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Due to the system's crucial role, passengers were informed of the development before rerouting to the France airport.

As per flight details accessed by Kenyans.co.ke,  the plane was scheduled to leave the France airport at 12:15 p.m. and was to arrive in Kenya at 9:55 p.m.

Reports also indicated that the plane had to dump fuel before landing in France because it had too much fuel.

However, upon arrival at the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, there were further delays as the airline worked to resolve the issues.

"Unfortunately, your flight AF814 from Paris (CDG) to Nairobi (NBO) on 16.10.2023 has been delayed. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience. KLM will keep you informed of any updates," read a statement from the company in part.

No passenger was injured during the incident.

Following the rescheduling, the flight was expected to arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday at 4:15 a.m.

Nonetheless, Flight radar details documents that the rescheduled plane took off from France airspace on Monday at 9:00 a.m. and arrived at JKIA at 6:55 a.m.

The Monday incident comes days after two Kenyan planes bound for the UK and Kenya had medical and security emergencies.

The first incident was reported on October 10 after a plane from the UK had to make an emergency landing in France after a passenger developed medical complications.

On the other hand, a UK military jet intercepted a plane destined for London Heathrow and diverted it to London Stansted Airport after security concerns were raised. No serious issue was established on the plane.
