Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitengela, Kajiado County, on Monday, arrested a junior officer for stealing valuables while investigating the sudden death of a foreign national.
According to a police report filed under O/B 76/16/10/23, OCS at Kitengela Police Station instructed his junior officer Samuel Simiyu Mukoche to assist in processing a crime scene that involved the sudden death of a middle-aged man in an estate in Kitengela.
According to police records, the residence was owned by foreign nationals.
A Nigerian who reported the incident, later filed another report claiming that the officers stole his iPhone and laptop while investigating the crime.
This prompted one of the investigating officers to make a follow-up leading to the arrest of his junior officer.
The suspect was questioned and it was established that he had taken the laptop to his office.
He later led the officers to recover the iPhone which he had already been sold within Kitengela town.
The laptop and iPhone were recovered and kept as exhibits, inventory was drawn, and both the laptop and the iPhone were positively identified by the Nigerian national.
The junior officer who appeared drunk was arrested and placed in custody.
In the cases where a police officer commits a crime, the National Police Service (NPS) conducts an internal review before preferring the appropriate disciplinary action.
