According to the report, the officers instructed the occupants to pull over to the side of the road and surrender willingly.

However, the trio disregarded the orders and sped in the direction of Chepsonoi/Shinyalu Road. While approaching Kakamega Forest near the Rondo Resort, the suspects stopped the vehicle and quickly exited with the intention of escaping into the forest.

Nonetheless, the officers caught up with them, resulting in a confrontation. One of the suspects was accused of opening fire at the officers, who in return fired back, resulting in the deaths of two of the suspects.

The third individual managed to flee into the forest despite sustaining crucial injuries.

"The officers expended 20 rounds of 9mm ammo from their two Jericho pistols and 15 rounds of 9mm special ammo from one AK 47 rifle," read part of the police report.

"One dead thug was identified as Elijah Kipngetich Biwot and the other one is unknown."

The scene was visited by police officers from Shinyalu and processed by officers from the Crime Scene and Investigation (CSI) unit based in Kakamega.

Bodies of the two deceased individuals were transported to the mortuary at Kakamega County General Hospital for preservation, pending a postmortem examination.

The Eldoret Central DCI Officers are actively investigating the case in an effort to arrest the third suspect.
