Students of Kapindasum Primary School have recounted a two-hour attack on the institution by cattle rustlers ahead of the national examinations.

In a video that emerged online on Thursday, the students were captured lying on the floor of one of the classrooms even as several rounds of gunshots could be heard during the October 24 attack.

One of the students Catherine Chepchumba indicated that they were forced to seek shelter in the classrooms for fear that the bandits would have shot at them.

She expressed fear for their lives indicating that they did not eat for the better part of the day of the attack.

The Class Eight student pleaded with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to intervene and add more police reinforcements to the institutions and the area.

The institution also hosts the Junior Secondary School with a section of the students set to sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

"We are very sacred and we are asking the CS to intervene. It is 9 am and we have not eaten anything. We are so scared and you can even hear the gunshots right now. We are about to sit for the exam and we do not know," she stated.

On the other hand, one of the teachers explained that the neutralisation of the attack took time given that the bandits surrounded the nearby General Service Unit (GSU) camp preventing the officers from responding to the emergency at the school.

However, the teacher indicated that some officers were at the school at the time of the attack and made attempts to repulse the bandits.

"The attack took place around 9:12 a.m. Some GSU officers had gone on patrol. Just one kilometre away from the school, they encountered the bandits and they retreated to the school.

"They called for reinforcement but the bandits had surrounded the GSU camp. The students are scared and have not even seated. We have nearly 207 students in the school who will be sitting for the national examinations," the teacher stated.

Examinations are set to commence on October 30 officially.
