Chaos erupted at the Kisii County Assembly on Wednesday as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) exchanged insults which culminated in the session ending prematurely as most of them abandoned the proceedings.

According to reports, the exchange was triggered by the woes bedeviling Kisii Governor Simba Arati, after General Service Unit (GSU) officers raided his office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October, 30.

During the session, MCAs affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) accused their United Democratic Alliance (UDA) counterparts of attempting to impeach the Governor during a past session leading to the verbal exchange.

“There are honorable members who want to take us behind, that they want to impeach the Governor, we dare you, bring it on,” one of the ODM MCAs stated during the session.

“The GSU officers raided the Governor's office and ransacked it, without notice nor did they have a search warrant to that effect,” another MCA stated.

ODM MCAs condemned the harassment meted on Governor Arati, quipping that the government is misusing security agencies to wage a political vendetta.

The MCAs affiliated to ODM further called for further investigations asking the national government to tighten security at the county chief's residences and offices to stop a repeat of the same in the future.

Once the ODM MCAs made these pronouncements, the UDA MCAs, seated on the opposite end of the aisle denied the allegations.

At this point, some of the MCAs started vacating the chambers while others remained in the house hurling more insults.

This comes after GSU officers surrounded Arati's office at Gusii Stadium on Monday, October 30, and blocked the Governor from accessing the premises.

On the same day, ODM condemned the siege and asked the national government to desist from what the party described as harassing Governors.

Secretary General Edwin Sifuna claimed that in the previous week, the Governor had been unable to access his office and discharge his duties due to the heavy presence of police officers drawn from the General Service Unit in Kisii town.

The party further claimed that police were planning to raid Simba Arati's private residences.
