John Onkendi, a young, talented boy hailing from Kisii County, has alleged that he is currently facing hardships in life despite gaining support from well-wishers in 2018.

The Prodigy, who went viral online five years ago owing to his proficiency in football commentary, added that he was shortchanged by his handlers, who had promised to help his family manage the contributions.

Onkendi gained nationwide attention for his exceptional skills in football commentary in the English Premier League, attracting the attention of football commentators from Radio Maisha.

He was later hosted at the Radio Maisha studios, where Kenyans rallied each other and raised nearly Ksh700,000 to aid him in nurturing his skills.

''They had promised to buy land worth Ksh700,000 to build a permanent house, but they constructed a semipermanent one on a parcel worth Ksh200,000,'' Onkendi stated in an interview with a local media station.

The land worth Ksh200,000 was also acquired far from their home, with the title deed hidden from their possession. Neither was it under the name of any of their family members.

Onkendi's elder brother, joining in the conversation, stated that the handlers of the cash should have at least involved them in choosing the location of the land rather than keeping them in the dark.

Their family tried all means possible to acquire the title deed of the land to no avail. They thus suspected that the unnamed individuals in possession of the title deed had plans to resell the land.

''All we want is to check the pay bill through which the money was contributed and confirm the total amount,'' Onkendi added.

The minor, who was then a Class Two pupil at Suneka Primary School when his story went viral, had also hoped to join a boarding institution, a plan that unfortunately failed to materialize.

''I was doing football commentary entertaining students in my former school and outside the institution, but later I was mistaken as being mentally unstable before going viral,'' Onkendi recounted in an interview with Voice One Runinga

According to the minor, the alleged handlers, who he claimed were well-connected with powerful figures, issued him with threats to deter him from sharing his ordeal.

In one instance, they confined him in his home and barred him from leaving the premises. Life became unbearable for Onkendi and his family ever since, as they were wallowing in poverty.
