Parliament has invited members of the public to give views on nominated MPs who are set to be conferred with Presidential awards.

Kenyans were urged to submit their opinions to the joint secretariat of the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee by Tuesday, November 14.

Among the lawmakers nominated for the awards that will be presented by President William Ruto on Jamhuri Day - December 12 - are Kimani Ichung'wah (Kikuyu MP), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja MP), Justice Madzayo (Kilifi Senator), and Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho Senator).

The four were selected for the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).

Meanwhile, Nakuru Senator Tabitha 'Keroche' Karanja and former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman Johnson Muthama will receive the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH) award.

For the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), a total of 37 MPs were nominated, among them Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

However, seven directors were also nominated for the Order of the Grand Warrior Award.

The National Honors and Awards Committee advises the President on the honoraries. The recipients are nominated by their county commissioners, government agencies, religious institutions, non-governmental entities, individuals, and other community-based groups.

Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (CGH) is the highest award and is usually awarded to sitting presidents and prominent religious or military leaders.

Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) is an award given to the sitting Deputy President, Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate, Cabinet Secretaries, the First and Second Ladies, the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Chief of Staff, and the Head of Public Service.

Order of the Burning Spear (OBS), is presented to public dignitaries, professionals, and exemplary members of the public service.

The Order is divided into three categories based on seniority, which are: Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) is presented to persons recognised for outstanding service to the country in various capacities.

According to the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee, handwritten submissions will not be accepted.

Views or objections should be sent via e-mail to honours@parliament.go.ke before Tuesday, November 14, at 5:00 p.m.
