Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has appointed former National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Director-General Francis Meja as a member of the Council of the Murang'a University of Technology.
The CS publicised the changes through a gazette notice released on Friday, November 10.
According to the notice, Meja will hold the position for three years, with the order taking effect on Friday.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 (1) of the Universities Act, the Education CS appoints Francis Meja to be a member of the Council of the Murang'a University of Technology for a period of three years," read part of the Notice.
Meja transitioned into the education sector after serving a two-term stint in NTSA, which ended in early 2020.
In a past interview, he credited himself with automating operations at the institutions whereby all services were made available online under the Transport Integrated Management Systems (TIMS).
Before his appointment at NTSA, Meja served as the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.
He also ventured into politics, vying to become Kajiado Governor in the August 2022 General Election. He, however, lost in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party primaries to Katoo ole Metito, who got 72,679 against Meja's 13,097.
Months later, he unsuccessfully applied to become a Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) member.
In other changes, former ICT Principal Secretary Joseph Musuni was appointed as a member of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis for three years.
Former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Solomon Maritim was appointed as a member of the Governing Council of Kenya Water Institute for three years.
East African Community (EAC) CS Peninah Malonza also appointed former Garissa Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Abass as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority, for three years.
