The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday announced that it had recovered 3 pieces of prime property in Mombasa grabbed by wealthy developers.
In a notice, EACC stated that land grabbers had encroached on three estates in Buxton, Nyali and Shanzu areas.
Additionally, government staff quarters in the Buxton area had also been grabbed.
“The Buxton one is adjacent to the government’s Affordable Housing Project,” EACC remarked.
EACC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Twalib Mbarak is expected to inspect the recovered property on Tuesday, during which, he will be accompanied by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir.
Other senior government officials will also be expected to attend the event to be appraised on the commission’s efforts to recover grabbed land.
The Coastal region has been on EACC’s radar as well-connected individuals have conspired with land officials to grab multibillion property.
In June, EACC investigations revealed that a former land commissioner had grabbed a Ksh70 million government house in Nyali, Mombasa.
Four months later, EACC reclaimed 31 acres of land grabbed in Kwale County.
It was reported that the land located at Chale Island had been subdivided and sold to private developers.
EACC Chairperson David Oginde on September 13, announced that all recovered land will be put into public use.
This includes but is not limited to turning the reclaimed pieces of land into Affordable Housing projects.
