A Lopha Sacco bus driver on Thursday engaged in a physical confrontation with a passenger who was accused of assaulting a female tout along Thika Road.

In a video, the passenger was captured hurling insults at the female tout and shoving her shortly after alighting the Juja-bound bus.

The reason for the altercation was, however, not revealed in the video.

A lady, believed to have accompanied the male passenger, was then seen pulling his hand away, seemingly to avoid the confrontation from escalating.

Minutes later, the bus driver alighted from the vehicle and rushed to the rescue of the female tout.

The driver shoved the passenger away, leading to a back-and-forth between the two as other passengers watched.

Irate over the matter, the driver also engaged in a verbal exchange with the man.

Other passengers who were inside the Lopha bus grew impatient with the situation, urging the driver to hasten and rush them to their intended destination.

Efforts by the lady who accompanied the passenger to intervene and calm the driver were futile as the situation escalated.

The driver pushed the passenger, throwing kicks and blows before another individual restrained him.

In retaliation, the passenger hurled insults at the driver as the lady who had accompanied him grabbed his hand, directing him in the opposite direction.

The video elicited debate, with the majority of Kenyans online calling for severe action to be taken against passengers who disrespect female touts. Others urged investigative agencies to look into the matter and ascertain the cause of conflict.

“It's so wrong, she was so helpless and it was probably her first squad of the day.”

“No matter the altercation, the female tout needed to be respected,” read some of the online comments.
