Kapenguria Member of Parliament Samuel Moroto on Tuesday expressed his regret in voting for the current government, further complaining that the decision could even bar him from entering the Biblical heaven, and asked for forgiveness from God.

Moroto was lamenting over the failure of the government to take action against the clashes that resulted in the deaths of four people in his region.

According to the MP, the current regime had immensely failed to deliver on its promises, especially in dealing with conflicts and the rampant insecurity in the North Rift regions.

“The lower part of the region, it is the govt that is triggering conflict and not any other government. It is this government. And am also a member of the UDA, and I regret why I chose it, and it may even cost me a place in heaven, I pray for forgiveness from God,” the MP complained.

According to the politician, among those killed was a student who had just completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

The aggrieved leader further pointed an accusing finger at the Kenya Defence Forces officers deployed in the area. Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify MP Moroto's claims.

"They're using the equipment they have been given to finish off people who are innocent. I as the area MP have tried so much, including with the area elders, and the churches," the MP, who was in the company of other leaders from the region, stated and further condemned the deaths.

In a bid to curb the clashes from escalating, the leaders called on the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination, Kithure Kindiki, and his Defence Counterpart, Aden Duale, to move with speed and restore peace in the region.

"The current government now is in place. They don't even move close to people, they use drones to drop bombs and destroy things. The Interior CS only came here once and has never come back," the MP said.

He also compared the current regime to that of the late President Daniel Arap Moi, which he claimed, struggled to restore sanity in the North Rift. However, he lauded President Mwai Kibaki's reign for championing peaceful coexistence between communities in the region.

On November 2, CS Kindiki warned politicians, community or religious leaders, against inciting or financing banditry activities in the troubled areas. Kindiki warned that those found culpable will be grilled and investigated.

He also assured area residents that the multi-agency security officers deployed in the six North Rift Valley Counties will not be recalled until the bandits are overpowered.
