A police vehicle assigned to Karagita Police Post in Kayole, Nairobi County, was involved in an accident after engaging in a high-speed chase with a suspect.
Per a police report seen by Kenyans.co.ke, seven law enforcement officers were on patrol along Kiguathi Road when they received a tip-off about the car, known for its involvement in multiple hit-and-run accidents.
The vehicle was reportedly attempting to escape towards the Mihang'o area, with boda boda riders in pursuit.
Acting on the information, the officers quickly located the wanted vehicle at the Quarry site in the Karagita area and immediately joined the chase for the vehicle.
The officers ordered the driver to stop, but he declined to obey the instructions.
Shortly afterwards, the police vehicle swerved and overturned off the road to prevent a collision with oncoming cars leading to an accident.
The police report indicated that the accident was caused by an illegal bump erected on the road in the Karagita area.
Subsequently, the seven officers involved in the incident were promptly transported to Modern Komarock Hospital in Utawala.
Five of the officers sustained minor injuries and were subsequently discharged. Two were, however, referred to Reale Hospital in Utawala for specialised treatment.
Government Vehicle Check Unit (GVCU) officers visited and documented the scene, which will help in their investigations as they seek to unravel what transpired.
On the other hand, the damaged police vehicle was towed to the old Nairobi Area Traffic Office.
The officers discovered the abandoned car in the vicinity of St Mary Immaculate Primary School, and the driver had fled the scene.
Subsequently, they towed the vehicle to Mihang'o Police Station Parking Yard, awaiting further police action.
