Tony Mukere, a Kenyan digital journalist, on Tuesday chased after a matatu driver who was attempting to flee after causing an accident along Thika Road.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, the motorist revealed that the matatu, attached to Zuri Sacco, hit and dented his car before speeding off.

He further believed that the driver was under the influence at the time of the incident.

"The matatu invaded my lane and hit me while overtaking. I hooted to him but he sped off," recounted the journalist.

"I chased him for about 200 meters and blocked the matatu. I questioned him about the incident but he attempted to leave by force. He seemed drunk."

At the time of publishing this story, the motorist, who had reported the incident which occurred at 7:00 pm, recorded a statement at a Ruaraka Police Station and the Sacco ordered to surrender the matatu in question.

The victim told this media house that he was moved to action because such cases had been on the rise and matatu drivers were behaving arrogantly.

"He was acting with impunity and I chose to act because such incidents have been on the rise recently," he explained.

Cases of brazen breaking of the law by motorists have been on the rise lately with the latest case involving a man driving a mangled car likely out of an accident scene.

The clip, which was shared online, showed that the vehicle was badly damaged on the passenger's side including the door all the way to a section of the hood. The vehicle was spotted along Mombasa Road.

Kenyans quickly blamed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) as well as traffic officers for lagging in apprehending such driver

Kenyans.co.ke efforts to track action against the driver were futile as text messages went unanswered.
