Throughout this year, several high-profile Kenyans became victims of robberies, at times armed, that saw them lose priced possessions.
Two CSs, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and his Gender counterpart Aisha Jumwa were victims of the incidents.
Here is a list of the five robberies that rocked the country in 2022.
Musalia Mudavadi home
In January this year, two men reportedly broke into Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s Karen home and stole a gas cylinder and a Samsung television set.
CCTV footage recorded from the Prime CS's home established that two male strangers gained entry into the compound after jumping over the perimeter wall at around 4:30 pm.
According to the report compiled after a forensic audit of the footage, one of the burglars covered a CCTV camera in Mudavadi's compound with a plastic object, impairing its ability to capture the identities of the intruders.
The missing items were later discovered by an employee on the property. Mudavadi's son reported the matter to the police.
Aisha Jumwa home
In yet another shocking incident, three robbers were reported to have raided the residence of Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa in Loresho, Nairobi County, on February 16.
The burglars reportedly made away with Ksh1 million in cash, a mobile phone, a laptop and jewellery.
According to the security detail attached to the CS's home, the robbers forced their way in after cutting a section of the perimeter wall.
The robbers went straight to Jumwa's bedroom, where they stole a jewellery box.
They later ransacked her daughter's room and stole the cash and phones. One of CS Jumwa's daughters was injured during the altercation.
Bomet Supermarket Robbery
In May, CTV footage from a supermarket in Bomet exposed an armed gang storming the establishment and opening fire on shoppers.
In the footage, the robbers could be seen shooting indiscriminately as shoppers scampered for safety.
The robbers also accosted the cashier and stole the supermarket’s earnings for the day in just a few minutes.
After robbing the supermarket, the two-member gang shot in the air as a warning and slithered into darkness. It was, however, unclear how much they made away with.
Police officer hiding in Bank
A police officer was arrested in Ruiru Town, Kiambu County, after allegedly trying to rob a Mpesa shop.
Ruiru police boss Alex Shikondi told the press that the suspect, an inspector, had robbed the Mpesa Ksh54,000.
Wails by the shop's attendant, however, attracted members of the public who thwarted the attack, after which they bayed for the officer’s blood.
Sensing the danger that was coming his way, the officer ran into a bank within the town for safety.
He would later be arrested by police officers attached to the branch.
Intruders Looting Uhuru Land
At the beginning of this year, the former first family incurred losses after intruders stormed President Uhuru Kenyatta's Northlands ranch and cut down trees.
The group also stole a rare breed of sheep and set a section of the property on fire. This was significant since the property hosts both Brookside Dairy offices and a processing plant.
The gang stormed the farm wielding machetes and power saws.
At the time, some politicians from the ruling UDA party had accused the former President of bankrolling Azimio’s anti-government protests which were threatening the nation’s stability.
