In the aftermath of the 2022 general elections, several prominent politicians found themselves on an unexpected trajectory, transitioning from the pinnacle of political influence to a quieter, less prominent existence.

Kenyan politicians are accustomed to the limelight, so when most of them are humbled, they retreat into the background to formulate a comeback strategy to enable them to bounce back in the next elections.

Kenyans.co.ke takes a look at some of the most prominent personalities who were trounced in the 2022 polls.

Millicent Omanga

Millicent Omanga, the Nairobi Women Representative Aspirant, faced a noticeable absence from the political limelight after losing to the current Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris.

While included in President William Ruto’s list of Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) positions, Omanga's political journey has taken a less prominent turn.

Evans Kidero

The former Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero, underwent a stark transformation after losing to Gladys Wanga in the Homa Bay Gubernatorial race.

Once a key political figure, Kidero now assumes the role of a political analyst, having transitioned away from the active political landscape following his unsuccessful election petition.

He was also appointed as a Chief Administrative Secretary in President William Ruto’s government.

Sospeter Ojaamong’

Sospeter Ojaamong’, the former Busia Governor, experienced a shift in fortunes after losing the bid for the Teso South Member of Parliament position to independent candidate Geoffrey Omuse.

Graciously conceding defeat, Ojaamong' has since maintained a low profile, refraining from extensive involvement in political discourse.

Naomi Shaban

Naomi Shaban, with a two-decade tenure as the Taveta MP, faced defeat in the 2022 polls against Wiper Party’s Bwire Okano.

Despite making sporadic appearances in political forums, Shaban has opted for a more subdued role in the current political landscape.

Wambugu Ngunjiri

Wambugu Ngunjiri, who lost his Nyeri Town MP seat in the 2022 elections has gone from being one of the most vocal politicians to becoming a political commentator.

While actively sharing his insights on social media, Ngunjiri remains tight-lipped about his future political endeavors, leaving his next move shrouded in uncertainty.

Amos Kimunya

Amos Kimunya, a former Finance Minister, experienced an electoral defeat against UDA candidate Wanjiku Muhia in 2022.

Subsequently, Kimunya chose to step back from the political scene, leaving observers to ponder whether this hiatus is a temporary respite or a more permanent shift in his political trajectory.
