Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure  Kindiki has given a directive extending a curfew under the Maliza Uhalifu Operation to 3 more counties.

The curfew through the operation which commenced on February 14, 2023, will take effect in parts of Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit Counties.

“To effectively degrade bandit networks, the ongoing Maliza Uhalifu Operation is being extended into parts of Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit Counties,” the statement reads.

Speaking during a meeting with security teams from Rift Valley and Eastern Regions and Formation Field Commanders at Archer's Post, Samburu County on Thursday, December 28, the CS indicated that the curfew aims to flush out bandits terrorising residents in the specified areas.

“New areas in the Northern Grazing Area in Meru North, parts of Isiolo and Marsabit Counties and banditry hotspots in Samburu County will shortly come under curfew and emergency measures to facilitate the flushing out of bandits and recovery of stolen livestock,” the statement reads.

The CS also condoled with the families of both soldiers and victims affected by banditry.

“The Government condoles and stands in solidarity with the families whose kin have been harmed and our frontline officers who have sacrificially fallen in the line of duty,” he added.

Kindiki further promised that the Government was focused on defeating banditry and building the resilience of affected communities.

“Additional areas will be gazetted as 'Disturbed and Dangerous ' as the Operation assumes its third phase,”

Together with the security teams, the government will further reinforce the checkpoint at Archer’s post to control crime along the Moyale-Isiolo-Nairobi Highway.

“Had to review operations at the Archer's Post Multi-Agency vehicle checkpoint which is making critical contributions to the fight against the flow of illicit arms, trafficking in persons and movement of narcotics and psychotropic substances,” Kindiki affirmed.

The Interior Ministry Boss while celebrating Boxing Day with officers in Baringo County stated that the government reduced banditry incidents by 70%.

"We have covered at least 70% in this war and the remaining 30% in a few parts of Samburu East, Samburu West, Isiolo County, and Turkana County, we are closing in on the criminals," Kindiki stated.
