The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) on Tuesday extended the application for placement to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

In a statement on its social platform, the Placement Body stated that the application process would run up to January 12, 2024, and not end on January 2, 2024, as previously announced.

The program provides a second chance for individuals who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) from 2000 to 2022 to hone their skills through the government-sponsored program.

"Applicants may visit any public TVET institution across the country for assistance," the statement read in part.

Through the TVET program, students with a minimum KCSE Grade of E can apply for artisan certificate courses whereas those seeking craft certificate courses should have a mean grade of D and above.

On the other hand, those seeking to apply for diploma courses should have a mean grade of C - (minus) and above.

How to Apply

All applications can be done online through the student's portal; students.kuccps.net

One is required to log in using their credentials ie KCSE index number, KCSE year and password.

(For a new applicant, one is advised to use their birth certificate number or KCSE index number.)

Once you've logged in, select four courses of your preference and the government institution of your choice.

List them in order of priority, with the first being the most preferable and the fourth being the least.

Once done, click submit.

The purpose of TVET programs is to equip the learners with skills and knowledge related to the work environment.

In 2023, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu announced that 9,673 students, who had qualified for degree courses, preferred to be placed in TVET institutions.

This showed the impact of TVET which aims at supplying the labour market with competent professionals.
