Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Wednesday, January 3, issued a directive to Inspector General Japhet Koome, to submit the files of the murdered athlete Edward Kiplagat within seven days.
This comes after the Principal Magistrate of the Eldoret Law Court, Cherono Kesse found that the DPP had presented credible facts and evidence over the deceased suspected murderers.
"The DPP has directed the Inspector General of the National Police Service to forward the resultant murder Inquiry file to the office within 7 days from the date hereof," read part of the communique.
The two suspects who have since been arrested are currently being detained as authorities probe into the matter.
Furthermore, the ODPP will be undertaking a review of the facts and evidence presented by the police boss.
The matter is scheduled for mention on 24th January 2024.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased is currently being stored at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital as police follow on more leads.
Kiplagat murder was reported on December 31, at Ainabach Police Station after his body was found in his brother's car near a school along the Eldoret- Iten road.
Two suspects were arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers based in Moiben over the athlete's murder on the following day.
After the arrests, they were arraigned in Eldoret law courts before the ruling magistrate.
Since then the ODPP has seemed a custodial order for 21 days as they facilitate further investigations into the murder.
Kiplagat was a world-renowned long-distance runner who represented Uganda in the 2016, Rio Olympics.
