Busia Senator, Okiya Omtatah has warned President Ruto, to abandon the destructive path of attacking the Judiciary as it may erode confidence in the arm of the government led by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Speaking at a pressor in Nairobi on January 5, Omtatah challenged Ruto to table evidence to support his claims that the Judiciary harbours corrupt judges.
"Let him provide concrete evidence of any judge or litigant taking or offering bribes," Omatatah stated.
The human rights activist also cautioned Ruto against being intoxicated with power which may make him behave recklessly.
According to him, Ruto's claims were pure allegations and he lacked proper documents to back them up.
"The President has a right, like any other citizen, to be heard & protest, I implore him to utilize his access to intelligence resources to unearth instances of corruption within the Judiciary," he further argued.
Omtatah also recommended Ruto issue a public apology following his utterances which have sparked nationwide outrage.
"He should apologise to the Judiciary and seek forgiveness from the diligent, public-spirited Kenyans & institutions that have challenged his pet projects in court," Omtatah commented.
Chief Justice Martha Koome also called out perceived judicial intimidation by the members of the Executive and urged judges to carry on with their work without fear or intimidation.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) further heaped pressure on Ruto by hinting at carrying out nationwide demonstrations next week lest he withdraws his statements.
However, Ruto declined the judicial warnings on January 3 and reiterated that rogue elements within the Judiciary were out to sink his legacy.
"Corruption must not find refuge behind the shield of judicial independence," Ruto stated.
