Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Sunday defended herself against allegations of involvement in the death of Meru blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.
Speaking during a church service in Meru, Mwangaza, claimed that her tribulations have been instigated by her political adversaries.
“They have tried impeachment, destroying our reputation, court cases, attempts on our lives and failed, now they have come up with this”
Mwangaza also denied claims that her son was arrested by the police as widely reported in sections of the media.
“Those reporting on things they don't know, some have said my son was arrested. All my children are in church today.” She said
On Saturday detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the home of Mwangaza in Milimani estate, cordoning it off for the better part of the day as they probe the blogger's murder.
The governor called upon the detectives to avoid being drawn into the Meru politics, which she insisted was the reason her name had been mentioned.
“Do not be biased, don't be used politically by those whom we defeated in the election whom we know and shall mention. If you were defeated in the election, take a rest. If you want to be governor, let us meet in 2027.”
She also vowed to cooperate with the DCI in the ongoing investigation as she stated her innocence
“We want the investigations to be open. We don't live in a banana country, we live in a country governed by laws.”
The DCI from the Homicide Department, led by Director Martin Nyuguto, on Sunday raided the home of another suspect in the death of the Meru-based blogger
Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, the detectives raided the home of a boda boda rider, located on the outskirts of Gachanka Village, Meru County.
