Various highways along the Mombasa-Malaba route are set to face a 4-month traffic disruption over the transportation of an abnormal load.

In a notice issued by Kyoga Hauliers on Wednesday, the transportation of the wide load commenced in Mombasa today.

The load is expected to get to Malaba on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

According to the plan, the load will be transported from Mombasa through Voi-Nairobi-Eldoret-Malaba.

However, the specific routes to be followed during the transportation were not highlighted. Specific dates for each route were also not indicated.

The company noted that the load being transported, a double-decker container, measures 5.2 meters in height, 4.5 meters in width and 20 meters in length.

Additionally, the load will be transported by a 26-wheeled monster truck which is likely to occupy a  larger space on the roads during the transportation.

Therefore, motorists using the select highways were advised to be extra cautious when approaching the load.

Motorists were also advised to keep their distance whenever they come across a truck transporting a wide load.

"All road users on the affected routes are advised to exercise extra caution when in the vicinity of this abnormal cargo," read the notice in part.

This is not the first time such a transportation is being witnessed. Previously, such loads have caused traffic snarl-ups.

On most occasions, most of the wide loads being transported by road have been military equipment, boats and planes.
