25 people were on Wednesday, January 10 involved in an accident at Karai along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
According to a police report, a private van rammed into a matatu ferrying Njonjo Girls’ High School students who were heading back to school.
Naivasha Assistant Police Commander James Ooro noted that among the 25 injured, 3 students sustained fractures and were rushed to the Naivasha Level Four Hospital.
Ooro further confirmed that the van driver was at fault, as he was trying to overtake at the wrong point along the stretch.
“All those involved in the accident are in stable condition while the wreckage of the vehicles has been towed to the police station,” Ooro stated.
The superintendent at the Naivasha Hospital, Bernard Warui assured that the 25 were in stable condition.
This accident comes a day after several other students were among 8 injured after a lorry crashed into the matatu they were travelling in at Lari along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
According to a report issued by St John’s Ambulance, the injured were rushed to various hospitals in the area, after receiving first aid treatment at the accident scene.
On Tuesday, 15 people perished in an accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a bus along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway .
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that the bus driver was at fault, for recklessly overtaking, which led to the head-on collision with the matatu.
"The driver of the bus is currently at large, and all efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” NTSA stated.
Horrific accidents have been happening on major highways, with NTSA and the National Police Service (NPS) advising motorists to take extra precautions on the roads.
