National Assembly Majority Whip and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro has threatened to sue Kisii Governor Simba Arati for defamation.

Osoro, through a demand letter dated January 17 from his lawyer Adrian Kamotho Njenga, gave the Governor two days to apologise and retract statements he made against the MP.

"Please take notice that Silvanus Osoro Onyiegon(our client) on whose express instructions we proceed to address you, intends to commence rigorous legal action against you, for atrocious conduct, defamation, vilification, publication of malicious falsehoods and abominable character assassination," read the demand in part.

The MP further demanded immediate admission of liability from which they plan to assess the damages.

"Take further notice that unless you absolutely offset the demand herein within two (2) days from the date hereof, we have strict instructions to commence high voltage legal proceedings against you, without any further reference to you whatsoever at your own risks as to costs and other consequences arising therefrom and incidental thereto," added the statement.

Osoro accused Arati of maligning his name and sending goons to attack his constituents at Nyabisase-Nyakembene road, with the intent to restrain them from grading and graveling the road.

The team further lamented that the Governor's goons attacked a contractor and his employees leading to the destruction of microphones, speakers and a sound mixer.

At the beginning of January, Arati accused Osoro of sponsoring goons to disrupt an event where the Governor was issuing bursaries.

While the Governor was addressing the gathering, gunshots rented the air, forcing attendees to scamper for safety. Arati's aide acted swiftly and covered him under a piece of clothing before whisking him out of the scene.

The clash lasted for about 30 minutes before calm was restored.

Arati, who spoke to the press shortly after the mayhem, blamed Osoro for the fracas, claiming that one of the shots targeted him.

"At that juncture, there were gunshots all over. I am told that a number of those shots, including a guy who has been hit on his left ear, were aimed at me. I want to understand, are we in a law-abiding country where the law must be followed?" He wondered.

The majority whip, however, distanced himself from the incident, calling on all politicians to observe political tolerance.

"It is an unfortunate scene. We need to be politically tolerant and understand that campaigns are still far," Osoro claimed innocence.
