Police officers attached to Central Police Station in Nairobi on Wednesday night arrested a blogger accused of extorting Ksh1 million from Nairobi's Health County Executive Committee (CEC) member, Geoffrey Mosiria.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Nairobi County official alleged that the blogger posted misinformation claiming that he was caught in a compromising situation with a woman.

Mosiria, who at the time, was at a workshop in Naivasha, Nakuru County, admitted to receiving multiple phone calls from concerned friends who informed him of the posts shared online.

"The allegations that I was with a woman who stabbed me on my backside. These were posted online by a famous blogger," he stated.

The official's name became a trending topic, a factor that disrupted his work schedule.

"I could not concentrate knowing that my name had been defamed. I am a father and a husband. I quickly returned to Nairobi and filed a report at the Central Police Station," he explained.

Mosiria instructed his personal assistant to contact the blogger over the matter. According to the official, the blogger demanded Ksh1 million to pull down the content from his platforms and issue a public apology.

The blogger ended the call abruptly, prompting the PA to contact the suspect's brother.

"After calling the brother, he agreed to a meetup to 'receive' the cash. However, we were accompanied by police officers who hid themselves while awaiting the suspects.

Moments after the duo arrived, police apprehended and placed them in custody.

According to Mosiria, the blogger will be charged with defamation, cyberbullying and character assassination.
