Police officers attached to Lang'ata Police Station have arrested a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in connection with the death of Nelvin Museti whose dead body was found outside her apartment in Lang'ata on the night of January 10, 2024.

A police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that the officer was arrested at the unit’s headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi, following a forensic analysis of the deceased's mobile phone, call logs and messages which revealed he was at the deceased's house on the night of the murder.

Detectives believe that the GSU officer was in the company of the woman in the apartment where they spent the night.

Condoms, alcoholic drinks, bhang and bottles containing beverages were also found inside the woman's apartment.

"It was later identified that the GSU officer (name withheld) was found to have been in constant communication with the victim. Further analysis revealed that the subscriber proceeded and joined the victim at her apartment for the night. Additionally, he was found to have purchased the items indicated," read the statement in part.

"Further investigations are ongoing to establish where the drinks and what alteration occurred in the apartment on the night of the murder."

Detective Constable Johnson Wanjohi, who is leading the case, filed an affidavit seeking to detain the suspect for 21 days, explaining that he might be a flight risk. The affidavit is also aimed at giving the police sufficient time to conclude investigations.

In the affidavit, the detective referenced a postmortem report conducted on Museti's body which showed that the victim was killed before her body was dumped outside the apartment.

"The investigators forwarded the exhibits collected from the scene to the government chemist for toxicology and DNA analysis," read part of the affidavit.

This contradicted the preliminary investigations that claimed Museti jumped from the third floor of the apartment to her demise.

The incident highlights the gruesome murders orchestrated on women in the past weeks, with observers calling on the government to prevent gender-based violence.

Azimio's Raila Odinga denounced the recent increase in femicide cases and emphasised that the trend ought to be stopped.

"The ugly scourge of murder of women is now a national emergency. It is a threat to homeland security. It must come to an end," the former prime minister stated.
