Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has pointed fingers at his political rivals after receiving a summon from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Speaking at an event in Kakamega on Saturday, the outspoken politician decried that his assault case does not touch on ethics deeming the summons unnecessary.
The MP was summoned to appear before EACC officials in Nairobi for assaulting Malaha-Isongo-Makunga Ward MCA Peter Walunya Indimuli at a public event.
"Have you ever heard of an assault case handled by EACC? I even have a case in court yet you are taking me to EACC. That is politically motivated and I know who is doing that," he lamented.
His Navakholo counterpart Emmanuel Wangwe differed with Salasya arguing that the young MP has been summoned for his unethical conduct, which is part of EACC's responsibility.
"EACC is not summoning on corruption, it is on ethics and we must call ethics to order. I have no problem," he insisted.
In a letter dated January 16, the Commission summoned the lawmaker for assaulting Indimuli at a funeral on Friday, January 12.
"The Commission notes that these allegations constitute serious ethical issues and if true, would amount to a serious breach of the integrity and ethical requirements governing the conduct of State officers," read the letter in part.
"The Commission has launched investigations into the matter with a view to taking appropriate action in line with our mandate under the law."
In his speech, Salasya also vowed to take action against parents who stormed a school and chased away a teacher over poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
"I as an MP declare that all people involved in chasing away the teachers will be arrested and taken into police custody," he stated.
Gubernatorial Ambitions
Salasya later declared that he would be running for the Gubernatorial seat in Kakamega during the 2027 polls.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the lawmaker made the declaration after falling out with the current Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.
"It's now official I will be vying for Governor," the MP claimed.
He is currently serving his first term as Mumias East MP, a position he clinched under the DAP-K party ticket.
