A police officer nearly lost his life after an unidentified individual driving a Toyota Prado almost ran him over.
In a video shared by activist Boniface Mwangi on Sunday, January 28, two police officers could be seen signalling the driver for a routine traffic stop.
The driver slowed down and one of the police officers who was in front of the car started advancing to engage him.
Suddenly, the driver started speeding off and were it not for the officer’s quick reflex, he could have been run over.
Concerned citizens led by Mwangi called on the National Police Service (NPS) to act quickly and apprehend the driver.
“Will he be arrested or he is one of the untouchable criminals,” Mwangi wondered.
It was not immediately clear why the driver sped off heading towards Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
Some of the Kenyans commenting on the issue remarked that it was unfortunate that Kenyans with high-end vehicles did not respect the police.
They stated that should it have been any other person, the situation would have been handled swiftly and promptly.
“The policeman can't even afford a car door from his income, so he should get out of the way and not play Sherrif,” one Kenyan noted.
There was also a section of Kenyans who remarked that it was wrong for the police officers to signal for the driver to stop in the middle of the road.
“Why would a cop stop a car in the middle of the road in the first place?” a social media user wondered if it was an operation being carried out on a Sunday.
