The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered 23 teachers following a series of disciplinary cases.
In a notice issued by TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia, the teachers were found guilty of the offences levied against them.
Macharia, however, did not list the stipulated charges the teachers faced.
The Commission listed the TSC number, case number, the name of the teacher and date of removal.
"In exercise of powers conferred by section 30 (1) (e) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names are specified in the Schedule herein below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to the provision of section 30 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act," read part of the notice.
The dismissals were done in line with Section 23 of the Teachers Service Commission Act which provides for the guidelines for removing tutors from the Register.
According to the law, a teacher whose name is removed from the Register will not be reinstated except by the direction of the Commission.
Further, the teacher shall cease to tutor or assist in teaching in any institution.
"A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such a person is registered as a teacher under this Act," read part of the statement.
"A teacher whose name has been removed from the register shall cease to be a teacher for purposes of this Act with effect from the date of such removal."
"A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such a person is registered as a teacher under this Act."
Anyone who employs a deregistered teacher shall be guilty of an offence and is liable to a fine of not less than Ksh100,000 or face imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.
In 2022, TSC deregistered over 100 teachers guilty of various offences.
