President William Ruto is preparing for an official trip to Japan, where he is expected to secure funding for an unspecified Ksh160 billion project.
Addressing a congregation in Kakamega County on Sunday, the Head of State revealed that he will fly out in the coming two days after hosting Polish president Andrzej Duda at State House, Nairobi today, with the talks revolving around another Ksh8 billion dairy project expected to benefit local farmers.
"We are heading to Japan because we have a program valued at $1 billion (Ksh160 billion) and Japan is helping us and we must plan properly," he stated.
"Today, we have Polish President coming to Kenya and we have a programme of Ksh8 billion centering around dairy which we will complete between today and tomorrow."
His trip was confirmed by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who revealed that he would fly ahead of the President to lay the groundwork for the State visit.
"He (Ruto) has restored Kenya's respect across first-world countries such as China and the United States," Mudavadi revealed.
"This evening, he has sent me to precede him because he has a trip to Japan. I will leave this evening and he will join me later."
The trip comes barely two weeks after his return from Italy where he attended the Italy-Africa Summit where he joined 20 African Heads of State.
Prior to departure, the Head of State indicated that he would seek financing for stalled dam projects in the country on the sidelines of the summit.
“The summit, whose theme is "A Bridge for Common Growth," will bring together 20 African Heads of State and Government to discuss crucial areas of collaboration,” he stated at the time.
Since taking over the reins, Ruto has touched down in over 40 countries, trips which Kenyans have questioned if they represent value for taxpayers' money.
