A Somali national was arrested in Nairobi on Friday, February 9, moments after landing from China where he had allegedly travelled to take care of his ailing mother.
The Somali national is wanted over allegations of physically assaulting a British national in October 2022.
While in China, the accused was ordered to appear before the Makadara Law Courts and his failure to attend the court session led to the issue of a warrant of arrest.
This was after the British national told the court that the accused was a former business partner who assaulted her in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Additionally, she has accused him of trying to scam her out of her various business property in Eastleigh.
The Somali national is now expected to appear before the court to answer charges of assault causing bodily harm and business-related fraud.
In the fraud case, it is alleged that during travel restrictions necessitated by the pandemic, the accused started changing the registration of businesses owned by the British national.
As such, he was able to register them under his name and gain full ownership.
A community-led mediation concluded that the two former business partners should share the property amongst themselves.
The British national has refused the recommendations as it would mean her ceding part of her businesses.
She has now resorted to seeking justice in court while the accused through his lawyers had denied all the charges.
His lawyers had earlier fought to rescind the arrest warrant remarking that his commitments in China had forced him to repeatedly skip court appearances.
