A Vietnamese construction company has won a multi-billion tender to construct police houses in Kenya.

The Hoa Binh Construction Group, which is among the leading construction companies in Vietnam, will be in charge of constructing accommodation houses for the police and students from the Technical University of Kenya.

The company will be in charge of five development projects estimated to be worth Ksh10.4 billion (USD72 million). It will be responsible for the design and construction of the houses totaling up to 3,400 apartments.

According to the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors at the company, Le Viet Hai, Africa is the largest and most promising construction market.

Besides the five housing projects, the construction company has been invited to submit its proposal for the construction of yet other multi-billion social housing projects.

The Ministry of Lands had advertised the tender, urging all interested parties to submit their proposals.

Notably, this win came after officials from the company came to Kenya for the company's inaugural visit to Africa. They were hosted by businessman Julius Mwale at the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) in Western Kenya.

MMTC is on a quest to develop smart cities and infrastructure across Africa. It targets building 18 cities in 12 African countries by 2050.

Officials from the Hoa Binh Construction Group came to benchmark with Mwale's MTTC as it sought to enter the African market.

On the construction of police houses, the government through the chairman of the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations committee Ndindi Nyoro, announced plans to increase funding for the construction and renovation of police stations and staff quarters.

The Kiharu Member of Parliament on December last year noted that some of the police accommodation spaces were in bad condition necessitating immediate renovation.

"Better housing will be a great motivation to our security officers who are tirelessly deal with crime and ensuring Kenyans and their property are always protected," he stated.
