Thika East MP Alice Ng’ang’a has raised alarm over attempts by land grabbers to illegally acquire prime land belonging to the Ministry of Public Works along the Thik-Garissa highway.

The MP, explaining the situation, noted that the two alleged land grabbers filed a case at the court to sue the government, claiming ownership of the contested parcel.

After conducting due diligence, the government discovered that the land had been grabbed after it attempted to put up ICT hubs on the three-acre land.

The legislator expressing her shock, noted that the Ministry records showed that the land had been leased to two individuals in 2022.

“The people who were born and raised in Thika, we have always known this place to be known as MOW. Even the property that is here belongs to the ministry,” Ng’ang’a stated.

The developers, suing the government at the court,  now want to be compensated for the controversial land.

“These two gentlemen have taken us to court, telling us we need to vacate from their land. They are stealing in broad daylight and they have not been arrested,” the MP noted.

MP Ng’ang’a further asking for fairness in the case, dared the two developers to produce evidence, to prove ownership over the land.

“I want to tell these two gentlemen the days of stealing and grabbing people’s property are up. And if they are gentlemen enough they need to face us,” she added.

The Thika MP further requested for a probe to be launched to unearth the Ministry of Lands’ officials involved in leasing the land to the two developers, as the case continues.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in January 2024, recovered six prime government properties valued at Ksh85 million in Milimani Estate, Kakamega.

"Six properties have been recovered and one is the current official residence of the Kakamega East Deputy County Commissioner. We could as well say that he has been a quarter on the government lands," EACC spokesperson, Eric Ngumbi confirmed.
