Detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), made significant strides towards combating crime on Thursday, March 7, by arresting three individuals at a car yard in Utawala.
The raid was initiated after a report from a car owner who alleged that his vehicle had been stolen at a repair shop along Kangundo Road.
During the operation, the detectives successfully recovered numerous vehicles and vehicle parts. The DCI officers have linked the trio to a sophisticated criminal syndicate known for targeting vehicles awaiting repairs.
According to detectives, the three suspects are believed to have conspired with the yard owner to steal the Toyota Allion and went ahead to dismantle it for sale as spare parts.
Detectives stormed the yard whose owner was out of sight and made several recoveries including the reported Toyota Allion.
Other recoveries at the car yard included three unidentified Toyota Probox cars, a Toyota station wagon chassis, and rear lights belonging to one of the dismantled cars.
The officers were also able to recover eight box lorry containers, a Mitsubishi truck and assorted vandalized vehicle engine parts.
Additionally, ten sets of vehicle registration plates were reclaimed, including a Toyota Allion fitted with a Toyota Premio bonnet, which was affixed with false registration plates.
In a similar incident on January 30, detectives rounded up a carjacking suspect in Eldoret, after the officers received an intelligence report on a case of the stolen vehicle.
Following the tip-off, a multi-agency team comprising of officers from DCI in Kondele, and DCI officers from Turbo arrested the 26 year-old suspect at his residence in Race Course estate within Eldoret township.
"Upon search in his residence, several items were recovered including an assortment of motor vehicle registration number plates, seven ignition keys, and chassis plates among others," a DCI report stated.
