The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of sections of Uhuru Highway due to scheduled maintenance work.

In a notice dated Friday, March 8, the authority specified that the closure would affect the stretch between Harry Thuku Road and University Way (Mombasa bound).

Therefore, the closure will primarily impact motorists who typically use the road from Kenyatta Avenue.

KeNHA announced that the closure would be effected beginning Friday at 11 pm until Sunday, March 10 at midnight.

Consequently, the road authority advised motorists intending to travel over the weekend to use alternative routes such as the University Way.

"KeNHA wishes to notify the Public that there will be a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between Harry Thuku Road and University Way (Mombasa Bound) from 11.00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, to Midnight on Sunday, March 10, 2024. This is to allow for highway maintenance works at this section.

"All motorists accessing Uhuru Highway (A8) from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as Harry Thuku Road and University Way," read the advisory in part.

Further, motorists were encouraged to exercise caution when approaching the road during the maintenance period to prevent traffic congestion.

KeNHA also confirmed the deployment of traffic marshals to assist motorists navigating the affected area.

The road agency emphasized its commitment to expedite the maintenance work to meet the established timelines.

Alternative Routes

Vehicles travelling in the direction of Mombasa will be unable to access the University Way Roundabout.

Therefore, they should divert at the Harry Thuku Road to connect with the main University Way before connecting with other areas such as Globe, Kipande Road and Tom Mboya Street.
