Residents of Wangwachi area in Sipili, Laikipia County have raised questions after a live bomb was found in a farm.

According to the residents, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found by farmers tilling the land on March 9.

The farmers reported the matter to the police who isolated the explosive, after which they determined that it was a 60-millimeter live bomb.

Police from the Sipili Station confirmed being informed about the matter after which they roped in bomb disposal experts who difused the explosive.

Before the incident, speculation was rife about an IED being dumped on the farm, with some stating that the bomb may have landed on the farm as security agencies trained in the area.

However, it is yet to be ascertained that this is how the IED landed on the farm in the first place as investigations are still ongoing.

There were no fatalities or injuries reported in the Saturday incident.

Law enforcement authorities have since applauded the residents who reported the matter stating that the consequences of mishandling of the explosive would have been fatal in the wrong hands.

This incident comes a day after nine police officers escaped unscathed after an IED exploded in Garrissa, destabilising their vehicle.

The police officers were on patrol in Welmerer when the IED exploded leaving the nine nursing injuries in the head, neck, chest, right limbs and back.

However, reports indicate that the officers were treated in nearby health centres and discharged.

Law enforcement officers confirmed that they have dispatched a Quick Response Force (RSF) to the area.
