Azimio La Umoja coalition has named former Attorney General Amos Wako to lead a three-man team representing them in the 2022 presidential election audit.

The other two are former nominated senator Judith Pareno and forensic investigator Julius Njiriani.

The appointment comes just three days after the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) submitted its report to President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The names were submitted to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Monday, March 11 by the Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi.

“I have today written to the Speaker conveying the names of the three persons who will be our members in the panel,” Wandayi said.

“These three persons will be led by Hon. Wako; they will join their three counterparts from the Kenya Kwanza side.”

Kenya Kwanza, President William Ruto's coalition, is yet to make public the names of their nominees to the Panel.

The NADCO report put forth a recommendation for the formation of a panel of seasoned experts tasked with scrutinizing the electoral procedures of 2022. This step not only aims to evaluate past elections but also lays the groundwork for establishing a robust mechanism to assess future electoral processes.

The panel should be in place 21 days after the adoption of the NADCO report.

The National Assembly endorsed the findings of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) in February. This report was originally presented to the House on December 7, 2023, by Kimani Ichung’wah, Leader of the Majority Party and Co-Chairperson of NADCO.

Already nine bills have been introduced in Parliament to facilitate the implementation of the report.

Last week, Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio Coalition, voiced concerns over perceived threats from certain quarters within and outside Parliament aimed at obstructing the progress of the National Dialogue Committee report.

However, Azimio Summit, the coalition's decision-making body, issued a stern statement, alleging that elements affiliated with Kenya Kwanza, both within and outside Parliament, are actively working to undermine the report's integrity.

"We caution those involved that any attempts to subvert or manipulate the report will not go unnoticed," the statement reads. "There will be severe consequences for any such actions."

The coalition's unequivocal stance highlights the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the National Dialogue Committee's findings and emphasises the commitment to upholding democratic processes in Kenya.
