Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Njeri Wairimu has come to the defence of President William Ruto amidst land-grabbing allegations raised by members of her constituency.
Njeri asserted that the owner of the contested 5000 acres of Ndabibi land had sold it to President Ruto.
Addressing attendees during a function on Monday, March 11, the MP cautioned against accusations levied at the president regarding the alleged land grab, insisting on respect for him.
“Can we stop the owner from selling the land to the President? It has been proven that this land belongs to Kipkulei, let him sell to whoever he wants,” she stated.
“If there is any of you that claims the President took your land, come to me and I will take you to him to claim your land,” she added.
The MP further warned against those spreading lies and inciting residents to demonstrate and contest the ownership of the Ndabibi land, requesting those with evidence to submit it to relevant authorities.
“You are spreading lies, because most of you are stuck with the MCA, laying claims and inciting people on TV, instead of coming over to talk,” she warned.
In the past couple of months, members of Ndibithi and Mwana Mwereri Company have clashed with the police over the vast land that was formally owned by ADC.
On March 5, 19 people arrested for trespassing alleged Ruto's land in Naivasha were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts, where the police recommended they be detained for 14 days pending investigations.
The 19, among them one lady, were accused of destroying the farm’s barbed fence on February 29, 2024, damaging the property valued at Ksh2.2 million.
"There has been a lot of public outrage with some members of the public trying to storm the police station at Naivasha Sub County to rescue the respondents and consequently remove them from safe custody and avert the due process of the law," investigating officer John Kinyongie’s affidavit reads in part.
Fighting for their release, the respondents’ lawyer Mbugua Muriithi accused the police of using land grabbers and politicians to punish innocent Kenyans, vouching for the 19 to be charged at a Nakuru court as per the jurisdiction.
