Celebrated TV personality Rita Tinina has passed away.
Sources privy to the matter told Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday that the current affairs reporter attached to NTV was found dead inside her house in Nairobi's Kileleshwa area
She was expected to report at the station for an assignment before the 1 p.m. bulletin but she failed to show up.
The station reportedly dispatched a team to her house where her lifeless body was found.
"Team, this morning we received the sad news that our colleague Rita Tinina had passed away in her house. She was expected to be in the office today but did not show up. The information we have so far is that she was fine all of yesterday but unfortunately, was found unresponsive this morning. The family has requested privacy at this difficult time. This is indeed a tragic development and I request us to be calm as we await more information," NMG Managing Director Joe Ageyo told the media house's employees.
Reports indicated that Tinina's family was present at the house when the police probing the matter arrived to pick up her body.
The cause of her death was yet to be established by the time of publishing. The police transferred her body to a mortuary as investigations into the incident kicked off.
Former KTN News anchor Lindah Oguttu eulogised her as a mentor who guided her in the media industry.
"I am who I am because I stood on her shoulders while at NTV. Go well my darling. Rita Tinina, the hand that held mine and never let go. I am broken," she stated.
Her family and Nation Media Group, her employer, are yet to issue statements over reporter's death.
Tinina is a beloved media personality with more than a decade of experience in journalism.
She worked at the Nation Media Group (NMG) before joining KTN News in 2012 where she worked as a senior reporter before returning to NTV in October 2023.
She was a mother of one.
