Media personality Patience Nyange was on Tuesday, March 19, appointed as the new Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) spokesperson under the Office of the Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu.
Taking to its X account, the IGAD Secretariat attributed Nyange's appointment to her experience, expertise, and passion for effective communication.
"We are poised to elevate our voice and mission not only in the region but globally. Welcome aboard, we wish you all the best in your journey with us,” read part of a statement by IGAD.
IGAD is an eight-country trade bloc in Africa. It includes governments from the Horn of Africa, the Nile Valley and the African Great Lakes with its headquarters in Djibouti.
Before her appointment to IGAD, Nyange served as the Executive Director of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK).
In 2009, Nyange landed the role of a journalist at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), where she served as a Radio Taifa presenter before leaving for Norway courtesy of the Association of Media Women in Kenya.
In 2012, she achieved another significant milestone by working at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), specifically its charitable arm and calling for media action.
Two years later, she transitioned from mainstream media to Public Relations.
Her next major achievement was working as a communication advisor to the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning previously headed by the current Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru.
She served at the Ministry of Devolution for two years before taking on a new role at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) as an assistant director.
Nyange holds a Master's Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication Management from Cardiff University in Wales.
"To everyone making an attempt at the Chevening Scholarship 2023/24, I am here to ask you to press on. Don't give up. Give it your best," Patience Nyange remarked through her Twitter account after bagging her Master's Degree.
