Kenya Met Forecasts More Rainfall in Nairobi County

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday, March 25, announced that several parts of Nairobi County would experience more rainfall on Monday night. 

Monday's update followed an earlier forecast by Kenya Met on Sunday that moderate to heavy rainfall would be experienced in several parts of the city. 

Based on Kenya Met's notice, heavy rainfall of above 20mm will be experienced in Kibra, Makadara, Embakasi Central and Ruaraka.

Areas that will receive moderate rainfall of 20mm and above include; Kamunji, Embakasi North, Starehe, Embakasi West and Mathare. 

Other areas include; Dagoretti South, Westlands, Roysambu and Kasarani.

Areas that will receive rainfall below 20mm include; Embakasi East and South, Langata and Dagoretti North.

Kenya Met announced that the weather forecast is valid until 9:00 am, March 26. 

Rainfall of above 20mm is also expected in several parts of Mt Kenya including; Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Murang’a counties. 

Over the same period of time, Kiambu and Nyandarua counties are expected to receive heavy downpours hitting up to 100mm.

Isiolo, Garissa, Kitui, Laikipia and Machakos counties are also expected to receive moderate rainfall on Monday night. 

Kenya Met's statement forecasting heavy rainfall on Sunday night was spot on as flooding was witnessed in several parts of the capital at night.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Red Cross has warned Nairobi residents, to exercise caution while driving or walking through the rain.
