Police in Nairobi are pursuing hooded thugs who were captured on CCTV footage breaking into the gaming lounge owned by Anthony Mwenda Kinoti, the son of former Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti.
In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Mwenda confirmed that the break in occurred on the evening of Monday, April 1, when the thugs tricked the building's security guard.
"There are some people who came yesterday at around 6:00 am. They came in a black X-trail and parked along City Park along Biashara Street," Mwenda stated.
"One of them alighted the car, surveyed the building, and waited for the security officer to open the backdoor and the gang entered.
"They executed the plan and thereafter tricked the security officer once again to allow them to load the gaming equipment into their car," he added.
Mwenda explained that the crew took advantage of Monday as a public holiday to steal the gaming equipment collectively valued at Ksh1 million.
"They stole 9 playing stations 5 consoles, 2 PS4 consoles, 20 joystick pads, and 35 games including Mortal Kombat and FIFA. That is around Ksh1 million cumulatively," he added.
"I reported the matter yesterday at Central Police Station and so far, I have had some regional DCI officers survey the premises."
He is working with the authorities to analyse the CCTV footage for clear images of the robbers.
The CCTV footage, which was obtained by this writer, showed the three individuals attempt to open the door of the shop before making away with the loot.
One was dressed in a black hoodie and grey pair of pants while the other donned a pink blazer with blue jeans dotted with white patches. A third was dressed in all-black head to toe.
Inside the establishment, the three dismantle the inventory before an individual with a black cap and a blue face mask tampers with the CCTV cameras.
