A Kenyan restaurant has been ranked among the 20 top international restaurants worldwide.

The Food & Wine's second annual Global Tastemakers Awards celebrated various restaurants worldwide, highlighting the famous Cultiva Farm in the Karen area in Nairobi.

The joints, which range from family-sized establishments to Five-star hotels, have been picked for their style, personality, ambience, establishment, and the perfect mix of food.

Cultiva, attached to a farm in Karen, is known for its fresh foods, prepared from ingredients plucked directly from the farm.

Chef Ariel Moscardi and Peter Silvester of Royal African Safaris run the restaurant where they advocate for growing heirloom organic crops on the farm and practising sustainable agriculture.

Also ranked in the awards, is the Emazulwini Restaurant in Cape Town, South Africa. The restaurant is known for its African cuisine prepared by chef Mmabatho Molefe. Molefe references her mother’s cooking by creating the dishes in a modern and fine dining style.

The experts, Food and Wine, are well known for their annual ‘Best New Chef’ awards. The outlet also produces magazines, newsletters, podcasts, premium events and social media posts in addition to their website content.

Kenyan restaurants have, in the recent past, received a major spotlight for their class, aesthetics, and originality.

In March, the 18th annual Post Office Travel Money Holiday Report ranked Mombasa as the third cheapest destination for United Kingdom (UK) citizens.

The cheap commodity prices were attributed to the strengthening of the Sterling Pound against the Kenyan Shilling at the time of research. The Sterling Pound, however, has since dropped and is currently exchanged at Ksh167.

In September 2023, Afar Magazine, based in California, ranked Segera Retreat, Angama Mara, and Ol Donyo Lodge among the 20 African hotels to visit for their positive impact.

The hotels advocate for environmental conservation, running foundations dedicated to raising funds to support conservation respectively. The Ol Donyo Lodge is part of the Great Plains Conservation Safari Lodge collection to impact the environment and its community.
