Govt to Build Airstrip and Short Stay Apartments in Narok to Target Wealthy Foreign Tourists

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has revealed that the government will undertake the construction of a strategic airstrip within a forest in Narok County in a move aimed at boosting tourism.

In a statement released following his visit to the county on Friday, April 5, Mutua indicated that the airstrip will be constructed at the Loita Forest alias Naimina Enkiyio Forest.

He explained the airstrip would help in attracting high-income tourists given the strategic location of the forest.

Additionally, the government will also be setting up an environment-friendly hotel in the forest. He noted that these modern facilities are preferred by tycoons owing to worldwide concerns about climate change.

"Furthermore, we will work in tandem with Narok County to attract investors for the establishment of an eco-hotel/camp within Loita Forest.

"This eco-friendly accommodation option will not only cater to the growing demand for sustainable tourism experiences but also contribute to the conservation efforts in the region," he stated.

On the other hand, he indicated that the national government would be collaborating with the county government in the development of high-end short-stay apartments.

Mutua explained that there need to address concerns of modern accommodation which is preferred by rich tourists.

As detailed by the CS, the units will be furnished with luxury amenities.

"Collaborating closely with Narok County, we will identify and support the establishment of homestays within the county. Initially focusing on 10 to 15 homestays.

"We aim to assist in creating accommodations tailored to the preferences of high-income tourists, complete with modern amenities and personalized hospitality," he stated.

Mutua also announced that the government would set up a Ksh20 million cultural center which will be used in preserving the history of the community and also attract tourists.
