The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Friday, April 5, announced a temporary closure of Haile Selassie Avenue (Central Business District Bound Lanes) between Haile Selassie roundabout and Parliament Road to allow for the installation of service ducts.

In a notice by the Authority, the closure will commence from Friday at 10:00 pm to Saturday at 5:00 am.

This means that motorists seeking to join Uhuru Highway from Haile Selassie will have to opt for alternative routes.

Among the options involves plying the Kenyatta Avenue from the CBD to join Uhuru Highway.

"KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," the notice read in part.

KeNHA has in the past been involved in maintenance works across the CBD including Haile Selassie, and Uhuru Highway as part of its overall mandate.

The Authority is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management and maintenance of all major roads across the country.

This includes dual carriageways that usually connect two or more cities, airports or other places of international importance.

Recently, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen stated that the government reduced the budget for road projects from Ksh900 billion to Ksh650 billion.

This, according to the CS, would allow the government to focus on existing projects and address outstanding bills.

He also noted that his ministry had also terminated non-performing contracts and removed projects that had not been awarded.
