The Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government has announced plans to begin acquiring 2.185 acres of land in Samburu County to set up a security installation.

Through a Gazette Notice dated March 25, the National Lands Commission confirmed that the land in question will be acquired from the Losesia Community.

“IN PURSUANCE of the Land Act, 2012, Part VIII, the National Land Commission (NLC) on behalf of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration gives notice that the National Government intends to acquire the following parcel of land for the development of its Security Infrastructure and training facility in Samburu County,” read the notice in part.

The NLC also announced that any individual who wished to inspect the land acquisition plans would be allowed to view them during office hours at the commission's headquarters.

“Plans for the affected land may be inspected during office hours at the office of the National Land Commission, Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, Ist Ngong Avenue, Nairobi”, read the notice in part

Additionally, the National Lands Commission County Offices in Samburu County would also be opened to facilitate the viewing by interested parties.

The gazettement of the acquisition comes after the government announced plans to build a military training facility in Pura, Samburu County.

According to the announcement made on October 29, 2023, the government's rationale behind setting up the outpost is to tame rising insecurity in the region.

In a move aimed at combating the attacks President William Ruto on Monday, April 8, ordered the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to West Pokot.

The President expressed his concerns over rising insecurity in the area after the closure of schools in the region prompted by increased cases of banditry.

President Ruto mandated the KDF to maintain peace and ensure that schools in the region are opened in line with the education calendar.

In a previous announcement made on February 15, President Ruto also directed that a military camp be moved from Uasin Gishu to Kerio Valley, for similar reasons.
