The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Inspector General of Police have been roped in a case after a businessman of Pakistani nationality went missing on April 8.

According to his lawyer Victor Lando, the businessman was accosted from his house by officers claiming to be from the DCI.

The lawyer, requesting for the release of his client, claimed that his client has been in lock up and is yet to be presented in court.

Lando, in a letter to the DCI, The Ministry of Interior and IG Koome demanded that the agencies reveal the foreigner's whereabouts, who is yet to be charged with any offences.

“The IG should explain why he is detaining someone for a week without being brought to court. If they do not present him to court the next step will be filing for contempt,” the lawyer added.

Lando further added that his client was locked up in several stations in Nairobi, including the ICD Jogoo Road station, and is unable to trace his current location.

The lawyer argued that the businessman has been a resident of the country for the past 16 years, and deserves to be treated as per the Kenyan law.

DCI has in recent raids arrested several businessmen across the country, for different degrees of lawbreaking.

On March 20, a trader was accosted in Nakuru for allegedly packaging and selling fake maize seeds.

During the raid, police recovered 34,700 boxes of counterfeit products, estimated to be worth Ksh13 million. The counterfeit products had been packaged as authentic Kenya Seeds Company sold to unsuspecting Kenyans.

Following the arrest, two garage owners were apprehended on March 23 along the Juja Road. Sixteen stolen motorbikes were recovered during the operation.

"Two suspects, in whose garage the said motorcycles were found were arrested in the 8 pm raid," DCI confirmed.
