Action to be taken Against CS Wario - Uhuru Confirms

President Uhuru Kenyatta has confirmed he will take action against Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Hassan Wario upon conclusion of investigations into the infamous Rio Scandal.

Kenyatta, who was addressing the matter for the first time since charges were preferred against the CS, said he was waiting for the authorities to complete their probe on the scam.

"We are waiting for due process to be done. A report has been done and now the investigating authorities are doing their work and would take action when the process is complete," he stated.

This followed a report from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) who directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to charge Wario and Sports Principal Secretary Richard Ekai.

According to the DPP, the two should be held responsible for the mismanagement of the Kenya sports team in the 2016 Rio Olympics where more than Sh100 Million was lost.

The Head of State confirmed that he was now waiting for the DCI to formally act on the report before taking action on Wario.

According to the law, a state officer who is facing criminal charges is expected to step down or be discharged by the appointing authority until the matter is heard and determined.

Previously, Kenyatta has fired a number of top officials including former Lands CS Charity Ngilu and her Transport counterpart Michael Kamau who were dismissed over graft allegations.
