Angry Youth Barricade Jogoo Road and Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

Police on Monday morning engaged in running battles with a group of youth who had barricaded Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

According to sources, the youth who had lit tires and barricaded the highway near Hamza on the way to Donholm were protesting against a decision by the Jubilee Party to deny a Member of County Assembly (MCA) his nomination ticket.

The youth allied to the MCA identified as Patrick Mwangi Macharia, were unhappy with the decision by Jubilee to award a nomination certificate to a candidate who had reportedly lost in the primaries.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone, Mr Macharia stated that Jubilee had declared him the winner in the primaries but his opponent was purporting to be the winner.

"Jubilee have declared me the winner, but the other guy is still insisting he won," said Macharia.

He added that he had not been given his certificate by the party.

Elsewhere, angry youth also lit bonfires and barricaded the busy Nairobi- Mombasa highway claiming that Kenya Railways had duped them that they would get permanent jobs.

The youth accused Kenya Railways of negating on their promise to hire the youth permanently on completion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
